Wired and Sedated at the Same Time…

Quote for Today: I missed my flight and I don’t care.  Anonymous

Ireland CountrysideNational Irish Coffee Day is here and I am sure everyone has their favorite recipes and here is mine. This is a non-traditional Irish Coffee and even though I do not drink it myself, I have given it to others who have loved it. Beware it is iced.

Ingredients
You need strong coffee. Either make double espresso if you have the means or load up your coffee maker with triple the coffee and half the water. A little (1 tsp) salt and a pinch of nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon are very good.

Irish Whiskey

1 1/2 ounces Irish Whiskey of your choice – Bushmills, Jameson, etc. add this to your mug first.
1-2 ounces – Heavy cream, coffee creamer (Hazelnut, French Vanilla) or ice cream. Add this last.
1 ounce Kahlua or any coffee liqueur, 1 dash vanilla and sugar to taste – add these second
In the end, blend 1/3 by volume ice cubes to the concoction above and blend well in mixer. Serve and enjoy.

From what I have read about the origins of Irish Coffee, it is suppose to give you a jolt and sedate you at the same time. Legend has it that it was invented when a group of airline passengers were delayed on the West Coast. Wanting a concoction that woke them and curbed their anger, this was what they came up with.  Apparently it worked and not a single gun shot was fired. Skip their whipped cream and sugar garnish, there is already enough in here. Trust me they are not necessary. If I have left anything out, or you know a great place to get Irish Coffee, let us know.
